Have fun with this video that we started today in class. What might this video teach us about engagement in literacy practices?

The lawyer asking the questions in the deposition of the expert seems to be challenging (shaming) the expert by repeatedly asking the same question about a simple math procedure that the expert is unable or unwilling to do. Is it that he doesn't grasp the basics of what his 'expertise' is built on or does he have 'public math' anxiety or is has he decided to be unhelpful? They are both dancing around (with their oral language) how they are questioning and answering each other. The 'expert' doesn't seem to be literate in lawyer speak-or is he expert by avoiding answering anything? Are they in charge of this or not?

After watching this video in class I couldn't help but have the same questions. Ultimately, I don't think he's been "mush-faking" his entire career. At one point i time he was hired and asked to perform these calculations with out his 'formulas' in front of him. I think that he was nervous during the interview and simply reluctant to answer the questions for fear of being reprimanded in some shape, form, or fashion. I think he's probably been doing this for a while and made a simple mistake that he's now being hounded relentlessly for. I don't know, just my opinion.
